About Us
Diane’s Library is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of young people by providing them with free books. As a public school teacher for more than 40 years, Diane Williams dedicated her life to teaching children how to read.
Our Mission
Our mission is to continue her life’s work - using books to open a child’s imagination, expand their knowledge, and shape their future.
Our Partner
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
In 1995, Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library to benefit the children in her home county in East Tennessee. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among the county’s preschool children and their families. The program gave each child a specially selected book each month. Dolly wanted to ensure that children could have their own books, regardless of their family’s income, by mailing specially selected, age-appropriate books to their homes.
Bringing Free Books to NH
In 2000, the Imagination Library started encouraging other communities to adopt the program. Diane’s Library joined in 2024 as a way to honor the late Diane Williams, a longtime New Hampshire public school teacher. Our mission is to expand Dolly’s book gifting program across NH, starting with the school district where Diane taught. We are proud to deliver free books in Hillsborough County in order to support education, improve literacy, and highlight the importance of reading to young children.
